    My current route is 42km XC on an old 26"HT. Track is the N.E Tassie Railtrail, a repurposed abandoned train track, thus minimal gradings. Bike is originally shod with a 3 x 9 drivetrain. 28-48T crankset + 11-36 cassette. Now that I'm fitter, I only drop to 2nd (38T) on the crank...and no longer use 1st and 2nd on the cassette. In order to create a more effective cadence for this particular track, of which I'll be riding for a long time, as the plan is to hit the 52km station before the year is out (track continues all the way to Derby)...I'll be changing crankset to 2 x 9 or 10, with top chainring at 44T, and the cassette will be 11-25\28, depending on availability. Currently, on the inclines, a gear between 3rd and 4th would be better, thus a tighter cassette is the way to go...and a 48 chainring is simply too big for XC on the declines. A tighter cassette willl provide a more efficient cadence choice, as currently I'm only using gears 3-6 on the cassette for the bulk of my ride. PS: appreciate you for your content. Learnt how to wax my chain from you.

    Great video. You were the first video I watched about waxing chains a couple of years ago, but I just now started waxing my chain. I also bought a small wax melting pot for a fraction of "Bicycle" specific pots. Question, if you clean the chain with boiling water before you re-wax it, would it still turn the wax black?

    The trouble I have had with the China brands is that after a few washes, either the chamois can break apart and slip around or the material on the panels thin out. And it’s either or…so I have good chamois but thinning fabric or very nice fabrics, but the chamois are all over the place.

    @stevenleffanue Hello Oz, I like to thank you for your many videos and how-to's on cleaning and chain waxing. The effort you have put into that over all these years is astonishing. One idea (maybe even for a future video?) is if you might want to share your experience, tests and recipes with other additives than PTFE (e.g. MOS2 or WS2)? In the commentary section I see that a lot of people including myself have concerns on using PTFE in their wax formula for environmental reasons. Here, a video on eco-friendly additives as an alternative to PTFE would be really great. What do you think?

    • @stevenleffanue
      @stevenleffanue День тому

      Many additives can be used instead of PTFE. The PTFE just happens to present the lowest friction.

    • @lordsinclair1st
      @lordsinclair1st 19 годин тому

      @@stevenleffanue Thank you for your answer. Would the ratio be the same for other additives (e.g. MOS2 or WS2) like with PTFE, then?

    Regarding the chamois, I have some expensive “name brand” that sucks.. and some chinese AliExpress that also sucks. But some chinese are really decent. Re price comparison, I can buy 6-7 chinese jerseys for the price of one name brand. So.. I have Castelli, Assos, Louis Garneau, PNS, etc.. and a ton of chinese kit. But I mix and match and find some good and bad in both.

  • @Mgrant8163

    I tend to buy my kit used and not new. That way I can pay Allie Express prices for higher quality kit. I do have a couple of Chinese jerseys that were given to me as gifts that I wear for variety and they have held up relatively well. I do notice the quality difference though.

    I bought a lot of jerseys from a brand by the name of Spexcel, I found their jerseys to be very good quality material and fit. You can always search by title of Profit, I've found extremely high quality OEM versions of big brand names. None of that cheap elastic waistband and arm instead you'll find rubberised sleeves and waistbands an extremely high quality material. They will cost up to double the price.

    I have purchased quite a few AliExpress bibs & Jersey’s for training & they are mostly 💩! Certainly not comparable to any recognised brand like Castelli or even DHB which are at the more budget friendly end of the market. I believe the Santic brand is okay but sizing can run small. Ultimately you will get a kit that is too short and far from being aero.

    To anyone out there who's even remotely considering buying kits from China directly, I've wasted over 2000 euros on them, ended up throwing most in the garbage (never used), unable to sell them, because of their crap quality. Rather get 1 pair of bib shorts for 200 eur than 10 bad quality ones (probably made with toxic materials) for 20
